Psoriasis Q & A

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a condition that speeds up the natural cycle of your skin cells. Usually, dead skin cells shed away, and fresh, new cells resurface.

When you have psoriasis though, new cells develop so quickly that dead ones don’t have time to slough off. This causes cells to build up on top of one another. If you have psoriasis, you may experience:

  • Red, scaly patches
  • Silvery scales
  • Dry, cracked skin
  • Thickened or ridged nails

When you have a psoriasis flare-up, skin can even become so dry and scaly, it starts to bleed.

How is Psoriasis Treated?

Your psoriasis treatment plan at Irradiance Medical Group Dermatology: Christopher Ho, MD is tailored to you, but the leading team of dermatologists offers the most advanced treatments in the Los Angeles area.

Most psoriasis sufferers use topical medications to control the disease. However, recent studies suggest psoriasis is more of a systemic disease rather than just a skin disease. Dr. Ho utilizes the most advanced systemic medications including oral PDE-4 inhibitors and many biologics to control the plaque psoriasis and arthritic psoriasis.  In addition, Dr. Ho serves as the principal investigator for clinical trial programs and has access to innovative treatments for psoriasis. This allows patients to participate in cutting-edge treatments that are not yet available.

Because there’s no cure for psoriasis, Dr. Ho and the team strive to find out what causes your flare-ups. Part of your treatment includes dietary counseling and advice for lifestyle changes that can decrease your risk and severity of future flare-ups.

Schedule a consultation to find out which psoriasis treatment is right for you. Book your visit at Irradiance Medical Group Dermatology: Christopher Ho, MD by calling the clinic or by booking online.
